Tri-Rail Launches New Express Service to Downtown Miami
Tri-Rail has announced the launch of a new express service from West Palm Beach to MiamiCentral, starting July 1. This service offers a direct ride into downtown Miami, eliminating passengers needing to change trains at the Hialeah Tri-Rail/Metrorail Transfer Station. The new express train departs from West Palm Beach at 6:30 a.m., stopping only in Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Dania Beach, and the transfer station in Hialeah before reaching downtown Miami at 8:05 a.m. The return trip leaves MiamiCentral at 5:35 p.m., making it convenient for evening commutes.
Enhanced Commuting Experience
This new service is ideal for commuters traveling to Miami for work, even those living outside West Palm Beach. The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) states that this express service will reduce travel time between West Palm Beach and Miami Central by 30 minutes, offering a faster and more efficient commute option.

Addressing South Florida’s Traffic Congestion
South Florida is notorious for its traffic congestion. Introducing the Tri-Rail express service aims to alleviate some of this congestion by providing a reliable and time-saving alternative for commuters. According to a recent study, Miami is ranked among the top ten most congested cities in the U.S., with drivers spending an average of 105 hours in traffic annually (up from 80 hours just three years earlier). By encouraging public transit, Tri-Rail helps reduce the number of cars on the road, contributing to fewer people being delayed on roadways.

More Affordable and Efficient Travel
Compared to other transportation options, Tri-Rail offers a cost-effective solution. While the average monthly cost of owning and operating a new car in Florida is about $1,015, including expenses like loan payments, insurance, and fuel, the cost of using Tri-Rail is significantly lower. For example, a monthly pass for Tri-Rail costs around $110, making it an economical choice for daily commuters.

Tri-Rail is operated by the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority and serves Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties. Introducing the new express service is part of Tri-Rail’s ongoing efforts to enhance transportation options and improve the daily commute for South Florida residents.
